Based in East Sussex, I have taught in schools for 14 years and worked as an English tutor for nearly as long. I enjoy working with young people and helping them find pathways through difficult and challenging topics. I trained as an English Teacher at Sussex University and have since worked across all three key stages at secondary school. I’ve had special responsibility for supporting high achieving students by coaching award-winning public speaking teams, producing school magazines and running lecture programmes and debates. Having taught English in Japan for two years, I also have an awareness of cultural differences and an ability to connect with students from diverse backgrounds Before I became a teacher, I worked in national journalism and PR. I’ve written for Newsweek, The Independent, The Times and Sunday Times, The Guardian and the Financial Times. This means I have expertise in supporting students to both analyse and write non fiction. Being professionally trained in effective communication, I work closely with all my students on how to structure their writing for impact, and improve the accuracy of their spelling, punctuation and grammar to achieve better grades.

I love learning and recently completed an MA in Creative Writing at the University of Sussex. This allows me to offer valuable insights on how to craft creative work. It also means I understand the pressures of writing essays for assessment, and keeping on top of coursework and revision.
